In a recent interview with gaming company - GamesRadar, Treyarchs Multiplayer Director - Dan Bunting talked about why it's unlikely that a future Call Of Duty Title will be set out of our atmosphere in space.
Bunting stated that the Treyarch team and Activision have a "never say never" attitude towards the idea, and that the franchise is more likely to "stick with grounded and more believable settings."
He further commented - "The way that we approach the creative on our game? I don't think we're ever going to reach a point where we just completely ignore finding authenticity"
Of course previous COD Titles Black Ops 2, Advanced Warfare and even Treyarch's upcoming title Black Ops 3 are set way out into the future, with New technological advances. But, they're not considered science fiction because the titles are "rooted in reality" and they "feel believable" according to Dan Bunting.
A few years ago Infinity Wards - Mark Rubin stated that a COD Title set in space would "make sense", but there would be numerous gameplay and system challenges to overcome. For example: Grenades wouldn't be usable and especially Killstreaks.
The only time we have seen COD in a space setting was during the first Campaign Mission of COD Ghosts, and again in Treyarch's Zombie Map Moon.
Finally it was announced that at one point Activision considered a COD Title back in 2010 set in space which was to be named "Call Of Duty: Space Warfare". But plans were cancelled and the concept was dropped last year.
That's all the Intel we have to share regarding this matter, remember it's possible that we could see a COD Title set in space. But don't get your hopes up!
